Questions for Wiccans | Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry
Do the gods and goddesses of Wicca actually exist?
Yes they do. Some Wiccans see gods and goddesses as reflections of The One, or main God. This is really no different from looking at the names for God in the Bible. The Bible expresses the idea of God through over 250 different names, each with a unique sphere of influence.
Monotheistic views of the world are still rather young when you take the history of the world. Even the Israelites were polytheistic until the time of Moses and even then, it took them ages to rid themselves of other deities aside from Yahweh.
To each Wiccan, their deities are very real and are part of their every day lives.
If they actually exist, how do you know they exist?
By faith and trust is the only way to be sure any Divine Being exists.
If your tradition contradicts the tradition of another Wiccan, can they both be objectively true?
Contradiction is the stuff that religions are made of. Look at the Christian or Islāmic faiths, they have many divisions over contradicting opinions of their holy books. Truth is found in the center of each of these differing opinions and makes them all plausible truths.
So, yes, they can both be true. There are differing opinions in all faiths.
How do you feel about believing in the religious system where you cater your religion to your desires?
Only a shallow person attempts to bend a religion to their own desires.
If you cater/construct your religion according to our desires, then isn't it nothing more than your own invention?
Wicca is constructed on a foundation of beliefs of people of the past. It is not solely our own invention. Wiccans take a bit from here and there and blend it up into something that is pleasant and soul fulfilling.
Is Wicca able to be shown to be false or is it all non-verifiable ideas?
Any religion can be shown to be false, based on the opinion of the person falsifying it. This question goes on the preconceived notion that the person asking the question is certain their own faith is verifiable.
If your spells and incantations produce results, how do you know that the power behind the results is good or not? How do you know that there is not something more sinister behind Wicca?
What you put into something is what you get out of it. In recent years we have heard of a trend of fundamentalist Christians praying for the death of their enemies, if it worked, would that be evil? The power behind Wicca is neither good nor evil, it is reflection of what the person doing the ritual puts into it.
Why do you think that rituals dealing with candles, knives, and such are able to affect nature?
The same reason people think that prayer works to affect nature, it is faith and belief that a change will occur. If the change doesn't happen, then there was a reason for it not to. Wiccans even have the knowledge that the gods or goddesses may not answer these pleas. They ask for help, not expect it.

A problem we see in Christianity is the notion that they are the only ones who know what the truth is. But even their god recognizes the existence of other gods and goddesses.
Hosea 13:4 "But I am the LORD your God, [who brought you] out of Egypt. You shall acknowledge no God but me, no Savior except me."
Deuteronomy 5:7 "You shall have no other gods before me."
Deuteronomy 6:14 "Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you;"
2 Kings 17:35 "When the LORD made a covenant with the Israelites, he commanded them: "Do not worship any other gods or bow down to them, serve them or sacrifice to them."
None of these verses deny the existence of other gods, just a prohibition to worshiping them.
